After Hunter tried to recruit Willow into the Emperor's Coven against her will, he quickly realized his mistake and helped her escape from Darius' blimp. Despite Hunter's initial betrayal, Willow is shown to have forgiven him and still consider him her friend, looking forward to his next day off. Willow immediately went on Hunter's Penstagram account, remarking that "he is a slow typer". The duo first met each other in "Eclipse Lake", when Hunter is captured by Amity and is forced to follow her, Eda and King into the mine tunnels. Noticing Luz's messages to Amity on the device, Hunter interprets it as Luz wanting Amity to come back with results or she will break up with her. When Kikimora starts getting closer to Hunter and Amity's hiding place, he begs Amity to untie him, saying he doesn't want to be replaced.

Everyone, except Vee, heads to the Demon Realm, with him being the first to cross. He, King, and the other teenagers fly to the head where they disable the Abomatons by the Coven Heads and he checks on Darius.

Shortly before the Day of Unity, Gus finds him camping out at Hexside and gives Hunter his lunch after seeing his living conditions. As Gus is about to be branded by Adrian, Hunter saves him and they venture through the school wide illusion Gus created before they are found. After Gus is taken to Adrian, Hunter convinces the students and staff of Hexside to help rescue him and calms the younger boy down after he traps Adrian and two coven scouts in their worst memories. In "Eclipse Lake", Flapjack continued to follow Hunter around despite his objections, but Hunter still hid the palisman from Belos for both of their protection.

As they get close to their destination, they are approached by Coven Scouts who say their ship is stolen. Hunter, Willow, and Amity fight off the scouts, during which Hunter falls off Flapjack, but is saved by Willow. However, Gus creates an illusion to make Hunter and Luz take on each others' appearance and she grabs Luz instead. After Alador destroys the factory and Odalia leaves, he and the others head to Kikimora's airship where the illusion wears off and Gus reveals Luz told him to mask her as Hunter. Hunter wakes up in the Healing Homeroom and tells the others Adrian has Gus. However, most are not trustful of him and suggest trading him for Gus, however, Willow vouches for him after he mentions a breathing exercise.

The two grow closer during their time in the Human Realm, to the point where Hunter addressed her by her first name instead of her last name. In "Hunting Palismen", Flapjack took a liking to Hunter while he saw the red-colored bird as just another palisman for his uncle, but after spending time with both Flapjack and Luz, Hunter began to act nice towards him. When the bird came to him later, Hunter told the palisman (who he previously called "bird") to leave before Belos could see him, knowing the fate that befell any palisman his uncle got his hands on, but was surprised when Flapjack instead picked him to be his bounded witch by turning into a staff in front of him.
Unbeknownst to them, a remnant of Belos follows Hunter to the Human Realm and ends up possessing him, nearly killing his friends and Flapjack in the process. This gives Hunter the strength to finally stand up to his uncle, and he sacrifices himself in an attempt to defeat him once and for all. Belos, weakened but not dead, returns to the Demon Realm, and Hunter and his friends follow closely behind, vowing to honor his fallen palisman.[9] After the group escape capture by the Collector, Hunter helps evacuate the trapped residents from the Isles' destruction. Following Belos' final demise, Hunter chooses to remain on the Isles and work to rebuild society. When the Collector defeats Belos and begins destroying the Demon Realm, Hunter, Luz, Amity, Willow, and Gus all escape to the Human Realm thanks to King giving himself up, it ends with them landing outside same the old, abandoned house in the Human Realm and the portal back to the Demon Realms closed off. Hunter is laid-back, easy-going, and likes to make quips towards the people he battles with.
When Belos possesses the Titan's heart and attempts to kill everyone on the Isles, Luz sacrifices herself to save the Collector's life. After meeting the Titan's spirit in the In-Between Realm, Luz is temporarily given the last of his power, which revives her and allows her to defeat and destroy Belos with help from Eda, King, and Raine Whispers. Afterward, Luz is able to live with her friends and family in both the Human and Demon Realms, after the Collector creates a new, permanent portal door for her. In the series' final scene, when Luz turns 18, everybody throws a "King-ceañera" party for her, to make up for her using her previous three birthdays to help rebuild the Boiling Isles. She also learns that, while her original glyph magic died with the Titan, the growing King has developed new glyphs for her to learn.

Hunter's official debut is in the first episode of the second season, Separate Tides. He becomes the Head of the Emperor's Coven after Lilith Clawthorne abdicates her role, and it's later revealed that he cannot perform magic, relying on staff to cast artificial spells. Later, Hunter wakes up to finds Gus passed out in a closed off part of the detention pit, he wakes him up, but Gus still feels unnerved and tries to keep his distance from Hunter, which causes Hunter to worry about how tense his friends have become and that he doesn’t know what to say to them. Hunter finds himself wrapped in a vines and goes to look for Willow and Gus only to find Willow losing complete control of her powers and is forced to watch helplessly as she entangles Gus and himself while trying to free them only to make things worse.
Gus asks Hunter if he knows where Luz is, he surprised and worried that Luz isn't with Eda and is missing. Hunter saves Gus from illusion coven head Adrian Graves; Gus asks why he's helping and why he ran away from the Emperor's coven which he can't bring himself answer. Hunter begins to panic again when he finds out that Belos is after him, Gus helps him calm down with a breathing technique. Gus tells him that people like Luz, Willow and himself are good people who don't have ulterior motives and are trusted. They fight alongside each other - along with Amity, Willow, and Luz - to defeat Belos.
Soon, he sees the Collector and King on a shooting star flying into Bonesborough and the others head into town. At the Halloween Festival, Hunter, Gus, Amity, Willow, and Luz explore the festival when they come across the haunted hayride where the guide tells them the story of the Wittebane brothers where he learns he was based on Belos' older brother Caleb. He pulls Luz aside and tells her of his sighting and reveals the plan to surprise her with the rebus. As they search, Hunter gets separated from Luz and Belos starts to take control of his body. During their conversation, Hunter messes up with the sewing machine, accidentally cutting himself. After Gus patches him up, he asks Hunter what it was like working for Belos.
